Our Missions in
Motion
by Judy McCraw
This has been a very good year at St. Mark and promises to continue to be a good
one.
The Missions committee has been very busy and you, the congregation, has made it
possible. We began by joining with HABITAT for HUMANITY in February to build a
Habitat home to which St. Mark donated $2,242.00. We continue to support our
JOIN THE HARVEST PROJECT, which helps fund local missions. Our work with the
COMMUNITY GARDEN is ongoing. St. Mark put together flood buckets for the UNITED
METHODIST COMMITTEE ON RELIEF (UMCOR). These are used when disaster strikes,
such as the floods, which have occurred out west. We enjoyed a DAY OF ROOFING
our very own youth trailer, which is in need of other repairs.
We've been involved in many fund raising activities at St. Mark United Methodist
Church (SMUMC). The EASTER OFFERING, which was given to Missions, is helping to
fund OUR MISSION TRIP TO TAPACHULA, CHIAPAS, MEXICO. Ten members will be working
with MISSION ON THE MOVE (MOM) June 7-14, 2004 to do repairs on the boy's home,
where children are taken to stay while their parents are in prison. We will have
VBS, a men's and women's Bible study for those in prison. Ministry will be done
in conjunction with the Nazarene Church, whose congregation has been very
supportive of the children's ,homes in Tapachula. Our ladies group, PROVERBS
KEEPERS, had a great time making the bracelets we are taking, which tells the
story of salvation. These are to be distributed along with a Spanish language
flyer to explain the complete plan of salvation.
The response to the SALE of ST. MARK SHIRTS to support missions has been very
good. Be sure to wear yours during Camp Meeting months at SMUMC.
On May 19, we enjoyed a " Dinner & a Night at the Movies" along with a SILENT
AUCTION. This was done with the help and hard work of Mary Hill and the
Fellowship Committee along with the wonderful Sunday School classes, who donated
theme baskets for the auction. Your combined efforts aided us in raising
$3,420.00 to help support the mission's of SMUMC.
On May 22-24, a small group went to Guyton, GA to work on the MOM storage
warehouse. The team removed the damaged facility hinged loading doors, both
downstairs and on the second floor, replacing them with new sliding doors, which
make it much easier to load and unload trucks.
You will remember the "DESIGN A ST. MARK LICENSE PLATE CONTEST"
several months ago. The winner was Mr. Jim Gray and his design was printed onto
license plates, which will go on sale soon! Won't it be nice to identify all of
those who attend St. Mark?
We have had several people inquire about the possibility of another BULB SALE,
as the flowers were beautiful and very reasonable. So, once again we will have
our sale in the fall. Be on the lookout for future announcements and get the
garden ready.
Your Mission Committee is busy both at home and abroad. We are ever mindful that
we could do nothing without the love and support of our members. Thank you so
much for all you've done in acts of kindness and your financial support. God has
really blessed St. Mark with a wonderful staff and a congregation with a heart
for missions!
