Bring your friends, too! A Vision Of The Church! This past week, members of the St. Mark Youth Group had the opportunity to go on a Mission Trip to Wilmer, AL near Mobile. While there, they had the opportunity to participate in either Home Repair Ministry or the Children’s Day Camp. While on the trip, I had the opportunity to observe something very special. The last night in Wilmer, we had a time where each of the participants could share what they had learned from their week of service. Each youth and adult had something different to share and it came straight from the heart. In hearing their words and watching them throughout the week, God led me to the verses Acts 2:42-47. Here Luke talks about the way the early church acted and interacted with each other. In my mind, it is a vision of what the church is truly supposed to be about. It is about fellowship, learning, serving and growing. In my experience on the Mission Trip, I truly feel that the youth got to participate in the true church. Each word in the scripture verses speaks to the way the youth acted and interacted with each other and the families of Wilmer. Rev. Hemingway’s words Sunday morning spoke true to our trip in that the Mission Trip was a microcosm of the way the church should act everyday. I felt truly honored to see this in the youth as they came to know each other better, came to love each other better and came to grow in their relationship with God. We don’t often have times where we can experience what we feel the world would be like if it were “perfect”, but when we do we can cherish them and use their memories to guide us through the rough times and grow us to become better Christians.
