"About
St. Mark"
St. Mark United Methodist Church is a vibrant church
in the northwest section of Columbus, Georgia. St.
Mark has a rich tradition dating to its beginnings
as a mission outreach of the St. Luke Church in
1856. St. Mark's people have demonstrated their
vision for reaching people for Christ's kingdom by
relocating strategically for outreach three times.
The church was moved to its present location in
1974. Due to demographic shifts, the church at its
last location had dwindled to an active congregation
of approximately 50 faithful members. Now, weekly
worship attendance averages approximately 400.
St. Mark is a theologically-conservative,
evangelical church in the Wesleyan tradition, known
in the community for the warm hospitality of its
members. Our ministry is very much a lay-oriented
one. Church leadership is a shared responsibility of
church staff and various boards and committees.
At St. Mark we intentionally seek to welcome and
include newcomers into the church. Each worship
service includes an invitation to become a member of
the church. Our initial follow-up to first-time
visitors includes an invitation for a complimentary
dinner for the entire family at the weekly
fellowship meal on Wednesday evenings.
We have a variety of Sunday School classes and other
study and fellowship opportunities. You are invited
to visit several classes to find the one that suits
you.
St. Mark has active committees for missions, Church
& Society Outreach, and evangelism. There are many
ways to get involved in sharing the love of Christ
with others.
We give special emphasis to music, children’s
ministry, and youth ministry. We operate an Activity
Center for fitness and recreation.
Whether you are a new resident in the Columbus area,
or visiting for business or pleasure, we welcome you
to worship with us. |
